Quietstones Honeycomb acoustic Panel consist of a paper or aluminium honeycomb core sandwiched between two skins of thin aluminium or steel to produce one of the lightest and stiffest building and construction materials today. One or both skins have thousands of sub-milimeter perforations, almost invisible to the eye, yet they allow a finite mass of air to enter into the honeycomb cell. The combination of the introduced mass of air, and the existing “cushion” of air in the cell, acts like a mass on a spring, creating its own pressure wave, which is emitted out of phase to cancel noise contacting the panel.
Sound absorption or noise deadening, is one of the key properties of Quietstone. The structure of the material is designed to take in and absorb the sound energy. This unwanted sound is then lost or transmitted away thus ‘deadening’ the noise.
