When a leading live music venue is refurbished excellent acoustics and aesthetics are required. That’s why Quietstone were delighted when our Quietshape acoustic tiles were selected for both the walls and the ceilings in The Jazz Cafe.
The Jazz Cafe, Camden has long been one of London’s most iconic live music venues. It has hosted a mix of world-famous acts, including Bobby Womack, Chuck Berry, Lee Scratch Perry, Amy Winehouse and Courtney Pine. Earlier in 2016 the clubs new owners, Columbo Group, invested £3 million in a modernisation, described as “an urban theme influenced by art deco”. The project involved improving the sound system and adding a 69-seater dinning area located on the building’s remodelled mezzanine. As both a restaurant and a live music venue excellent acoustics was a fundamental requirement for the project. As well as the practical acoustic aspects of the work aesthetics were paramount to rejuvenate the clubs unique atmosphere.
Our acoustic tiles can be manufactured in the specific shape and colour required for such a specialist project. Teardrop shaped tiles were selected for the walls while hexagon shapes were selected for the ceiling. Pastels shades with a distressed look gave the venue the unique appearance that they wanted while improving the acoustics.
Since reopening in May ’16 the venue has received very positive reviews and we think you’ll agree it looks stunning.
